The City of Astoria and the Astoria Fire Department are preparing for Fire Prevention Week. This year Fire Prevention Week will be October 3rd through the 9th. During this week the Astoria Fire Department will be busy spreading this year’s fire safety message; “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has announced “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” as the theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 3-9, 2021. This year’s Fire Prevention Week™ theme, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety™,” puts the focus on educating children and adults about smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, their necessity, and how the sounds they make help save lives.
Astoria Firefighters would like to invite everyone to our open house to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. The open house will be held at Astoria Fire Station #1, 555 30th Street from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on October 6th. There will be games for kids, fire truck tours, a prize raffle and lots of fire prevention and fire safety information. Astoria Fire Department members will also be available to answer any questions that you may have.
The Astoria Fire Department is also excited to announce that we have hired a new member to the department that will serve as the Fire Marshal – Emergency Manager. His name is Brian McCarthy and he comes to us with more than 20 years of fire service experience. Brian will oversee all fire prevention efforts for the fire department and as the Emergency Manager, Brian ensures that the community is prepared for emergencies through planning and education. Please join us at the open house and meet Brian.
The City of Astoria and the Astoria Fire Department are committed to keeping the community safe.
