Astoria, Oregon has a beautiful, 5-mile Riverwalk along the shore of the Columbia River. At the beginning of 1997 though, it was a weed and trash strewn rail corridor. On April 19, 1997, Volunteers, the City, the Chamber and several service organizations joined together to clean up the riverfront in preparation for construction of the Riverwalk that you see today.
